I read an article the other day about David Bowie and psychosis over the years there has been thousands of documented cases of Bowie featuring in the delusions of people with psychosis. One case report described a “32-year-old divorced white female with a long history of affective and behavioral problems”:
She believed she was secretly married to the rock star, after supposedly meeting in a church camp several years previously. She described seeing him “wait for her” outside her hospital window. The onset of this delusion coincided with a local tour by Bowie.
After reading the article i was inspired to write the poem below
The stars still look the same
Watching from my window
What do I see?
I see a spaceman starring back at me
Trembling like a flower in the most peculiar way
against the wall,
With different eyes bag full of stardust
Dancing with red shoes and a bluebird
Is he waiting, waiting for me
Young Americans on the silver screen
Looking, looking for the cow
That Lenin, wouldn’t buy
Swim like dolphins
Station to station
Ashes to ashes
Prices are low
The world falls down,
Where are we now?
Major tom with Diamond dogs and a real cool cat
Hunky dory Plastic souls
I guess you’re happy
Lost in the labyrinth
Following the man,
men who sold the world
Scary Monsters and Super Creeps
Hello Alligator keep your electric eye on me
Five years in Aladdin’s cave
With shadows on the wall
Space-invaders, Button eyes
Scarecrow spiders from Mars
Searching for bluebirds
And im absolutely sane
Ground control can you hear me?
Planet earth is blue and there’s nothing I can do
Can you hear me ?
By the way, the stars still look the same..
Lazarus of black star
Like a Leper messiah,
He is king and I his wife
Il see him in four days’ time
The Papers might like to know and the stars
The stars still look the same..
Homelessness is now the big issue and how to combat it in Ireland with many jumping from the water meter scandal, politicians screaming from the hill tops on what can be done and if only them or their party were in power they would solve the problem screaming about the Irish free state and the 1916 Easter rising trying to use nationalism to stir up the people well to me that’s exactly what Éamon de Valera done while he went off to rub shoulders with the high and mighty of the world “leave the people to their religion ”..
Ballymun in the 1990s got the go ahead with a corporation grant 70 thousand to each flat, fitted kitchen, up graded windows and heating and general repairs. Only for the new Dublin City Council to decide five years later that the whole dream of Ballymun and all it promised was a mistake so let’s knock it down and build houses, too much antisocial behaviour from the high rises sure the people are only experiments on social reform:
Ballymun was often seen as the jewel in the crown of failed government social housing experiments then it got a complete overhaul in the mid-to-late 2000s, Ballymun entered into regeneration but with this Regeneration the lower and working classes became an after thought, the land zoned for social housing did not meet the demands of the community and Under section 25 of the Social Welfare Act 2007, the Minister for the Environment can identify areas to the Department of Social Protection where rent allowance should not be payable, being areas “of regeneration for the purpose of providing for greater social integration”. So anyone depending on rent allowance within the Ballymun Regeneration Area, rent allowance was not payable.
From the onset of the Free State people living in overcrowded squalor and homelessness was the main objectives of the new government nearly a century later people are still dying on the streets without a roof over their heads I wouldn't say there homeless most are house-less many have homes and families that broke down somewhere along the line, but they are the people we imagine when you say the word homeless that dirty smelly drunk or drugged addict begging on the streets but in today’s Ireland with the austerity cut backs more and more people and families are losing their home and many more at risk with rent caps on the social welfare rent supplements this leaves us with the century aged question.
What do we do to ease the housing problem?
and also leaves us with some modern ones
Was knocking down the flats a mistake?
Are we seeing and feeling the ripple made by these decisions ?
If only things were as simple as taking the clock out of the Liffey.....
After watching the Syrian crisis on the news, screaming why isnt anybody doing anything every inch of my soul wanting to help but all i can do is try and scream with pictures and hope someone listens with their eyes.
I don't know what's real anymore...
When I was young, my mother told me Santa Claus was real.
But when I got older- she told me he wasn't.
One book says Jesus is real: one book says he isn't.
We're living in one of the greatest countries in the world!
and we're murdering each other in the streets.
What did they expect when they made us believe in the tooth fairy and the Easter bunny,
then gave us the nuclear bomb to play with...
Hey diddle diddle the cat and the fiddle is a lie like all the rest,
the astronauts killed the man in the moon,
growing up took care of the rest.
